SiC is made from Silica sand, Petro Coke(or Coal Coke),Wood Chip in high temperature in resistance furnace.
SiC can melt in the hot metal and react with free Oxygen and metallic oxide to form CO and slag which content Si element. SO it can be used as cleaning agent.

It can increase the temperature of the hot metal and reduce the corrosion of the slag against the refractory lining.
